The Summer Hikaru Died or Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu is a CRAZY manga!!! It follows the story of a boy named Indou Hikaru who died as whose body was replaced by something, the whole plot and story are so incredibly written and illustrated!
The story is a thriller/horror, with BIG gay aspects, but I wouldn't consider it a bl. "Hikaru" cannot feel love, yet still displays the leftover feelings of Hikaru. "Hikaru" has confessed to Yoshiki as himself, the monster, but admits he doesn't know if it's platonic or romantic. story is more focused on evil spirits and body horror rather than romance. Currently, they are both trying to figure out what "Hikaru" is.
"Hikaru"
"Hikaru" is the monster occupying Indou Hikaru's body. It is currently unknown if "Hikaru" is The Great Body Snatcher. Hikaru's final dying wish was for him to inhibit his body and tell Yoshiki something... (insinuated that it was his true feelings for him). When his feelings take him over, his true self is displayed.
Tsujinaka Yoshiki
dude is going THROUGH IT. He was the one who discovered Hikaru's body, and since "Hikaru" took over his body, he hasn't properly greived. After finding out Hikaru is dead he went through a depressive episode (second image), and even went as far as to stab "Hikaru". IMAGINE GOING THROUGH ALL THIS AT 17 ☠️☠️☠️☠️

They are so terrible for eachother it borders on comedic; 3rd img especially highlights this. Yoshiki has stabbed "Hikaru", and "Hikaru" has lost control and almost killed him multiple times (but has also saved him from multiple evil spirits!). Still, seeing their dynamic is so gripping because idk what'll happen next.
"Hikaru" adopting Indou Hikaru's mannerisms and personality but not being him, is so jarring. There's a scene in Chapter 26 where Yoshiki and him get into an argument and "Hikaru" makes a face that Hikaru only made as a young child when he got especially upset. It causes a serious disconnection as you realize that this is just a being inhibiting Hikaru. He's using Hikaru's face in a way that is unintentional, but it shows that both Hikarus are closer in nature than prevously thought if he can make that face so effortlessly. So interesting!!!
